To reduce the CO2 emission and energy cost of a house, many products have been in the marked to optimize the energy use in the house. In those products, many just give the suggestions while others can control the appliances to save the energy. The challenges of the control requires the network enabled appliances, which is not popular in the house.
The objective is to design a on/off controller with energy optimizer on the power distribution panel to control the appliances
The specifications include:
1) An energy optimizer which can receive the data from OEB wesite for real-time energy price.
2) It can predict the energy use of next day and turn off the circuit breaker during the on-peak if necessary.
3) User can view the optimization results over the website or phone APP.
The team should following the approach:
1) Design an network controlled distribution panel. The panel can turn off the circuit breaker with the command from energy optimizer.
2) The panel also feed the measured power/energy data to the optimizer for prediction and display.
3) The optimizer can be an algorithm running on server or personal computer. An smaller PC (like rasperry PI) is preferred.
4) Software on the server will receive data from OEB website, scheduling the next day energy use and control the circuit breakers.
5) Design a user interface using website or phone APP.
The group should be responsible for design, test and validate the project.
Student A will design the network enable circuit breaker and power distribution panel.
Student B will design the measurement system on the distribution panel and communication with the energy optimizer
Student C will investigate the smaller server and program the server for receiving the data from panel and OEB wbsite.
Student D will program the algorithm for energy optimization
