Medication management is a stressful situation especially for senior citizens, who typically have complicated medication schedule. A smart pills dispenser can help alleviate the anxiety and stress related to medication schedule, and also ensure that important life-saving dosages are not missed.
The objective is to create a low cost internet-connected prescription dispenser that automatically dispenses the required dosage of pills at a specified time so that patients do not have to worry about maintaining their own medication schedule.
1. Internet-connected dispenser box that has different compartments for different types of medication.
2. The box can be programmed through a web application where dispensing time, quantity, and frequency of pills in specific compartments can be customized.
3. Voice alert through a speaker when the medication has been dispensed, with instructions on how and when to take it (before after meal etc). The voice alerts should also be customizable.
1. Raspberry pi based system.
2. Motorized dispensing system that is connected to the different compartments.
3. A speaker connected to the system to announce the voice alerts.
4. Web app needs to be highly customizable.
See Suggested Approach. There are some existing smart dispensers in the market that should be studied for ideas.
