Security Protocol for Vehicle to Vehicle Communications

2021 COE Engineering Design Project (TY06)

Faculty Lab Coordinator

Truman Yang

Topic Category

Software Systems

Preamble

This project is trying to utilize Raspberry Pi to simulate the on-board units inside the vehicle. The goal is to design and simulate security protocols of vehicle to vehicle communication in Internet of vehicles using two Raspberry Pis.

Objective

(1) Design security protocols, such as key generation, distribution and authentication for vehicle to vehicle communication. (2) Evaluate the performance of new developed protocols.

Partial Specifications

(1) Data transmission between Pis should ensure data confidentiality and data integrity.
(2) Detailed designs and documentation on security protocols and algorithms.
(3) The developed protocols need to resist various kinds of attacks.

Suggested Approach

(1) Literature review on security protocols of vehicle to vehicle communication will be conducted.
(2) Follow the research of existing work to do implementation and evaluation and make further improvements
(3) Software development in Python. Familiar with the security architecture of Python.

Group Responsibilities

Design and implement the software as specified above.

Student A Responsibilities

Design and implement authentication protocol between Pis.

Student B Responsibilities

Design and implement key distribution protocol.

Student C Responsibilities

Evaluate the performance of protocols and algorithms.

Student D Responsibilities

Detailed document on design, implementation and evaluation.
