Design and Implementation of Real-time Performance Enhancement and Monitoring of Cloud for Industrial Applications
Cloud computing is a promising solution for organizations to manage their IT services in cost-effective manner. It is also currently investigated for IoT and industrial applications. Since it offers a level of abstraction, it is known to exhibit slower response time than a dedicated system. In this project, we will investigate the use of cloud for connecting Wireless Positioning and Sensor Network (WPSN) for industrial applications. The work involves developing test cases to measure response time of applications running in cloud under varying load condition. Analysis of test results will identify performance enhancement factors that will be used to build performance enhancement scheme. Performance monitoring and enhancement scheme will be implemented in the software using Open Stack on Ubuntu Linux, which are widely used in the industry. The Open Stack is an open source cloud stack that is widely used in the industry and supported by IBM and HP among others. The Ubuntu Linux is also widely used in the cloud industry. The software needs low-level integration with Open Stack, which will give the RA deep exposure to Open Stack internal details. It will also integrate with low-level Linux networking stack. Our lab is equipped with state of the start Cloud computing testbed with the prior support of FEAS DRF-Tools grant. The work conducted in this project is a part of VIPII industrial project. The RA will get additional benefits of working with graduate students, participate in group discussion, give presentations and help writing research papers.
1. Familiarize with Cloud and Open Stack cloud platform 2. Read papers on cloud performance 3. Develop real-time requirement for industrial applications 4. Develop and execute test cases for real-time performance 5. Analyse test results to find areas of improvement in real-time support 6. Implement performance enhancement and monitoring 7. Write the report and assist writing paper.
1. Hands on experience in Java. 2. Experience with Linux, Java SDK Java IDE is preferred. 3. Have completed course on Algorithm Design and Data Structures. 4. Familiarity with cloud and networking is a bonus. 5. Passion for system and software development. 6. Be able to work independently in a research environment with flexibility in making design decisions. 7. Good analytical, writing and communication skills.
