Wearable Data Analytics for Sports and Lifestyle Applications

2018 Research Internship Project

Faculty Name

Sridhar Krishnan

Project Title

Wearable Data Analytics for Sports and Lifestyle Applications

Project Description

Signal analysis research (SAR) group in the ECE Dept. at Ryerson University is leading the research and development of sports-related and physiological-related signal and information processing systems. With the advancement in sensing, processing, cloud storage, and machine learning techniques the sports world is set to face a rapid growth in integrating these technological advancements for better training and decision making in major sports. The advent of low-power, wireless wearable devices have created an opportunity for "rich" behavioral and biosignals data. The high volume and velocity data obtained needs advanced signal processing and pattern classification techniques to reveal latent and hidden patterns of interest. The project will specifically focus on soccer videobase collected over many years by the Signal Analysis Research (SAR) lab. More details of the work done by SAR lab could be seen in the website: www.ryerson.ca/sar, and the specific publication in the area of wearables could be obtained from: Athavale, Y. and Krishnan, S., 2017. Biosignal monitoring using wearables: Observations and opportunities. Biomedical Signal Processing and Control, 38, pp.22-33.

Student Responsibility

The specific duties and responsibilities of the RA includes: 1) standardizing wearable datasets for machine learning 2) creating visualization and UX/UI design customized to end-user needs 3) providing a detailed mid-term and final reports
