Accurate Wireless Positioning System

2019 Research Internship Project

Faculty Name

Project Title

Accurate Wireless Positioning System

Project Description

Wireless sensing has numerous applications. However, in general the accurate location of the wireless sensors is unknown. Remotely finding the location of objects (with few cm accuracy) using wireless technology has many applications. In this project, students will work on an innovative Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) system that will automatically track hundred of object using Ultra Wideband (UWB) radio signals. The new LoRa standard wireless systems are used to transmit the sensing data. Students will work our industry partner Peytec Inc. (peytec.com) that pioneer solutions in this area. Peytec has license for this new Wireless Positioning and Sensing Networks (WPSN). Peytec has launched several successful industrial demonstrations of its WPSN systems including manufacturing, agriculture, event management, freight, logistics and retail. Peytec strategically added additional talent and strong partners including IBM, VentureLabs, Vineland Research and, Ryerson University.

Student Responsibility

The student will work under the supervision of Dr. Fernando and Peytec Engineer to program micro controllers and implement parts of the algorithm of the WPSN.

Specific Requirements

Good knowledge on software and embedded system programming.
