- S. Krishnan and V. Yang awarded funding from the Ontario
Research Fund for Infrastructure for Advanced Health
Technologies.

- The Department welcomes two new faculty members: M. Kyan with
expertise in machine learning for multimedia and biological data and
J. Smith with expertise in bio-mechatronics joined the Department in

- The Department has entered into a five year partnership agreement
with Hydro One Networks for internship fellowship opportunities for
undergraduate Electrical and Computer Engineering students.

- Congratulations to T. Venetsanopoulos for
winning the "Most Cited Paper Award" for his co-authored paper
"Vector Sigma Filters for Noise Detection and Removal in Color
Images" in the Elsevier Journal of Visual Communication and Image

- The Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer
Engineering took place in Niagara Falls from May
4–7. The Department was one of the major organizers of
CCECE 2008— the flagship conference of IEEE Canada.

25. Fourth-year students demonstrated their Capstone Design Project
in various categories including: biomedical engineering,
communications, digital signal processing, networking, power

- X. Zhang secured Phase 1 of NSERC Idea to Innovation funding for
the research project, "An Intelligent Information Retrieval and
Processing System for Financial Databases".
