Nov. 29, 2008: 2008 STUDENT ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS; The 2008 Student Achievement Awards were held on Nov. 19th at Oakham House.
Nov. 1, 2008: IEEE TORONTO SECTION AWARDS; X. Fernando, D. Androutsos, A. Anpalagan and S. Krishnan win IEEE Toronto Chapter awards.

Sep. 20, 2008: ADVANCED HEALTH TECHNOLOGIES RESEARCH FUNDING; S. Krishnan and V. Yang awarded funding from the Ontario Research Fund for Infrastructure for Advanced Health Technologies.
Sep. 14, 2008: DEPARTMENT WELCOMES TWO NEW FACULTY; The Department welcomes two new faculty members: M. Kyan with expertise in machine learning for multimedia and biological data and J. Smith with expertise in bio-mechatronics joined the Department in August.
Sep. 14, 2008: IEEE FACULTY AWARDS; Congratulations to X. Fernando and D. Androutsos.
Aug. 13, 2008: HYDRO ONE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM; The Department has entered into a five year partnership agreement with Hydro One Networks for internship fellowship opportunities for undergraduate Electrical and Computer Engineering students.
July 21, 2008: MOST CITED PAPER AWARD; Congratulations to T. Venetsanopoulos for winning the "Most Cited Paper Award" for his co-authored paper "Vector Sigma Filters for Noise Detection and Removal in Color Images" in the Elsevier Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation.
July 16, 2008: Canada Research Chair in Bioengineering and Biophotonics; V. Yang awarded Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Bioengineering and Biophotonics.

May 30, 2008: 2008 DEPARTMENT RESEARCH AWARDS; Congratulations to the graduate student winners of the Department's research and GA/TA awards and to the faculty members who secured external research grants.
May 1, 2008: CCECE 2008; The Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering took place in Niagara Falls from May 4–7. The Department was one of the major organizers of CCECE 2008— the flagship conference of IEEE Canada.
Apr. 28, 2008: OPEN HOUSE PHOTO ALBUM; A photo album of the 2008 Open House which took place on April 25. Fourth-year students demonstrated their Capstone Design Project in various categories including: biomedical engineering, communications, digital signal processing, networking, power electronics, remote sensing & robotics.
Jan. 29, 2008: DEPARTMENT WELCOMES TWO NEW FACULTY; B. Venkatesh, with expertise in power systems, and V. Yang, with expertise in biomedical instrumentation, join the Department.
Jan. 22, 2008: Engineering Institute of Canada Fellow; Congratulations to B. Wu for being selected as a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada.
Jan. 16, 2008: From Idea To Innovation; X. Zhang secured Phase 1 of NSERC Idea to Innovation funding for the research project, "An Intelligent Information Retrieval and Processing System for Financial Databases".
Jan. 10, 2008: Research featured in the Toronto Star; Graduate student R. Phan's research on image retrieval based on content analysis is featured in the Jan. 10th edition of the Toronto Star.
Jan. 7, 2008: Best Paper Award; Ph.D. student Y. He and faculty researchers Drs. L. Guan and I. Lee were awarded the Best Research Paper Award at the Pacific-Rim Conference on Multimedia.
